The # 6 shank is for mounting half round gutters to crown molding. Crown moldings need to be properly mounted to fascia or rafter tails. Shanks should be screwed through the crown molding and into the fascia or rafter tails. Screws as long as 6" may be necessary. #6 shank works in conjunction with the circle hanger (sold separately).
